Millumin & Arduino - Millumin Stream

$

Hey guys,

Im brand new to Millumin but got told about it when discussing a project with a friend, and it turns out its exactly what I was looking for.  I have managed to get a rudimental version of what I am trying to achieve to work. But now i'm trying to slim-line it a little bit and was hoping for a couple of pointers.

* I must also add that i'm pretty new to Arduino too, but picking it up very quickly.

So my project is an installation, of witch we project onto box's the box's have a motor in each to rotate them.  Millumin triggers the motor to go and plays the video to animate the box spinning.

I have got to a point where Millumin sends a HIGH value on D5, witch goes though a resistor to D4, D4 is setup to listen for HIGH, when it see's it, it triggers the motor (the amount of steps is all fixed inside the Arduino code, so just need a trigger).

Thats fine I can keep working like that, but when I start running 4 motors off of each Arduino its just more cables and bits in the circuit.  So I am wondering how I can pass a value though Milluminstream to trigger different motors.  I have followed the online examples but im getting a little bit stumped.  I also could be completely wrong on how I understand the Milluminstream library to work.

From what im understanding from it onInPutvalue I can get the Key:Index & value being sent.  So in Millumin I tell an electronic layer to send
"M1 1" I should receive that in the variable in my Arduino? (I am using M to represent Motor, so M2 would be the second Arduino controlling the second stack of box's).

My code in Arduino inside the "void onInputValue(uint8_t key, uint8_t index, uint16_t value)" would see if its an 'M' key and Index, then depending on the number that is passed in the value, trigger that motor.  So 0 would keep all off, 1 would trigger the sequence for motor 1 and so on.

Am I right in thinking like this? Does this even make sense? I was having troubles with getting the info passed.  Do I need togo into an Analog I/O to read the value if I send it out a digital pin instead of it doing it internally?

Any advice or points in the right direction would be grand.

many thanks
Tuck

I'm using Millumin with several Boards separating Scenes. When using spacebar the order or the ">>" button the order goes perfectly.
When triggering with a midi controller it sometimes jumps Boards.

Anyone could help?

Millumin Control from ETC Ion Desk

I'm currently working on a show that is using an ETC Ion lighting desk. I'm attempting to get it to send next column commands either via DMX or OSC but having not a lot of luck. Has anyone else used one successfully?
We have a Enttec DMX Pro Mk2 but couldn't seem to assign a dmx value for the go command. All the documentation I can find is for Millumin 1.
As for Art Net, I've successfully sent OSC from one computer running Millumin 2 to the main machine so know its working that way - just the weirdness of the desks OSC implementation is getting us.
Any info people have would be appreciated.

pink/violet color using active adapters accell for mac pro fullhd outpit signals on screen

Dear community I have an issue related to a topic I found on this forum.
Reading this post of MichaelWG I bought 4 active accell mini display/DVI adapters to push the fullhd signal on mac pro 2013 mini display port out puts:

You
need to use ACTIVE DVI to display port adaptors. An ACTIVE adapter will
convert the display port to DVI. The standard DVI to display port
adapters are PASSIVE, they just pass the DVI signal from the MacPro
through. MacPros can only support 2 DVI outputs (HDMI counts as one). The
Apple mini-displayport is a dual-link active adapter capable of
resolutions up to 2560x1440, but is $100 an has to plug into a USB port
as well. If you just need 1920x1080, you can use a cheaper single-link ACTIVE adapter. I like the Accell B087B-006B UltraAV Mini DisplayPort to DVI-D Single-Link Active Adapter. I
can get them from Amazon for under $30. The other advantage of these is
they don't require a USB port. I've had 6 connected to my MacPro, each
output running 1920x1080.

this is the product:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Accell-B087B-006B-UltraAV-Single-Link-Certified-Black/dp/B004071ZXA

the signal works really well, the problem is the color space/range of the out that I see on the screen is translated on pink/violet.
Basically a black back ground RGB with white text is displayed as magenta background (instead of black) and light pink for text (instead of white).
I have already tried to calibrate screens through Display preferences but the calibrations and profiles color that are available of the screen preferences will not bring back the original color display.

do you have an idea why it does this the signal?
any idea how to fix it please?

many thanks in advance

all the best

Clip freeze at start

Hello,

For the story: For a theater company, I am moving a show from QLab/MadMapper to Millumin Demo, to see which one we'll use for next shows.

My problem is: when I launch a clip it freeze around 0.5 seconds on the first frame then the clip runs normally. I've tested several file size, from 100MB to 2GB, and with optimized or not videos but the problem is still there.

Any idea about this problem?

Thanks

Auto-follow delay

Hi
Im a new user preparing a big show.
My problem:
Even if  I only use a short wav-file placed I two columns, a soundclip that is perfectly clipped for looping, there is a delay in the transition.
If I test the wav as "Infinite", it loops perfectly.
Can this be right? It should be ok to have one beat through a show using different columns.
I use Millumin +V2 (beta) and the latest and fastes MacBook Pro.

Accuracy, Columns and Segments

Hello!
First, an important observation: Moving from column to column is not instantaneous, and this means that a piece of music split between two columns in the dashboard will have a noticeable delay and/or interruption.
a. Is there any way for users to fix this, or a workaround?
b. would it be a goal for you fine people to eliminate this lag, something perhaps that can be fixed in coming updates?

The second topic is using a timeline with segments (A, B and C "once only") that I would like to extend over 3 columns in the dashboard and then set loop mode for Auto-follow on one or more of them. When I select which segment  is in each column all the columns change to the same segment. Is this correct? Must I put 3 instances of the timeline in 3 columns and select the segments they reference instead? In this case, the delay in part one of my comment occurs.

If I am mistaken please tell me the exact settings that will achieve a smooth transition from segment to segment in the timeline.

Thank you for your help!

Best regards,

David

Current SDI video capture cards tests and latency results

Hello there,

I just got my hands on a 15" Macbook Pro with Touchbar and a few video capture cards and wanted to share the results here.

Setup:
15" MBP w/touchbar

Cameras:

All cameras were connected through SDI 1080p 29.97fps

The Epiphan device only supports 1 camera and it had noticeable delay at 7.5 frames. I would even suggest that the frame rate was varying a little bit.

The Duo 2 inside the Sonnet Echo Express captured flawless video from 3 cameras simultaneously at 6.25 frames delay.
The Duo 2 supports either 4 inputs or 4 outputs which you can configure as you like: 3x1 ou 2x2, etc.

The Quad 2 inside the Sonnet Echo Express was a bit faster at 5 frames delay while capturing video from the 3 cameras.
Millumin always humming at 60 fps and Activity monitor reporting the system did not flinch at all.

I also tested 4 cameras with the Quad 2 and you can go up to 8!

If I get my hands on a USB-C to thunderbolt 2 adapter I can also test an Ultrastudio mini recorder, to compare.

Hope this helps.

Phillipe,

Do you know any way to time the playback of a timeline based on time of day? I have a show that needs to run just after sunset outdoors and turn off at 3 a.m.

Set column transition time using OSC message?

$

Looking for a way to control the transition time of a column using a OSC message,

The idea is to be able to set the transition time via a external cue manager using this articulation:

transition to [ COLUMN_NAME ] in [ X ] milliseconds.

using the API feedback, I'm able to "read" the transition time as the last item of the /millumin/info

{ ( 8966787046730370560 )
  [/millumin/board/launchedColumn int32:1, OSC-string:`black']
  [/millumin/info OSC-string:`board/launchedColumn', int32:1, OSC-string:`', OSC-string:`black', OSC-string:`chapitre_1', float32:5000]
  [/millumin/board/stoppedColumn int32:3]
}

I'm looking for a way to set it but did not find this particular use-case in the OSC API documentation

I did tried to add the transition time after the string since it feel right, but without success :
/millumin/action/launchColumn "black" 5000

Any clue on doing this? thank you/merci.

Computer and graphic card for 6 projectors mapping ?

Voici donc mes questions :

;) :D

Using NDI tech with Milumin?

$

Hello Philippe,

I am checking in as I've seen some announcments on your website about the ability to use Milumin with NDI based network technology.  I'm wondering if you might be able to provide an overview from a hardware / software perspective on how to use Milumin to output to multiple projectors using NDI hardware and a wireless network.  I was looking at the Newtek Connect Spark HDMI units and assume You'd have one of these plugged into each projector and then these would receive a signal from a wireless router that could handle the multiple wireless HD or 4K signals sent via a Milumin / syphon pairing, but I'm not sure which transmitter / router I should be looking at or if any of this is possible in the way I'm thinking.  In the end, I'm trying to use Milumin to control 4 HDMI based projectors, via a wireless connection system that has as little lag as possible.  I've also seen some projectors from NEC with built in wireless systems and am curious if you've ever used these with Milumin as well.

Thanks for your advice!

Sync two machines and control by one midi controller.

Hi. it's my first post.
Thank you for making this great app.
First, sorry for my poor english.

I'm using millumin v1 on two machiness.
I want to call its main and backup.

I need to syncronise both machines.
So I set everything right on 'setup osc' in 'device' menu
When I luanched column.
Main worked fine.
But backup's media dropped frame rate.
It looked like backup machine can't follow main machine media's speed.
Not delay but drop framerate.

When I use simplesync or milluminsync which is made by jpkelly
Everything was good. there's no frame drops.
But sometimes I need to use a midi controller on main for luanching columns, adjusting media speed, effects.. and so on.
So I want to control both machine by midi controller not using those apps.
And want backup to follow main's adjustment by midi controller.
I couldn't find a way to map midi to those apps.

Do you have any idea to fix my problem?

PS.
Both machines are mbp 2015 15inches. and I tested on mbp 2017 15inches too. It has same problem.
My midi controller is luanch control XL
Attached image is basic setup when I work at events.

OSC Latency with ATEM

Hi the community,

I got a problem with my OSC messages, through AtemOsc software and Millumin.
I've no problem when I send a macro or something else.
But when I send an OSC message for switching from Cam2 to Computer AND a media in Millumin, the latency is huge (3 secondes, I think !)

Any idea ?

Thanks
